Liturgical Year Calculator
This utility will generate a table of festivals for any given year, according to the calendar which was in use in most of Europe at the time of the Reformation, and thus adopted by the Lutheran Church. This calendar is also identical to that of the Sarum rite, and thus is also used in the Anglican church. Most modern liturgical systems are based on the Galican liturgical calendar which Rome adopted universally in 1570, in which Sundays after Trinity Sunday are counted as Sundays after Pentecost. In the 1970s many Lutheran bodies adopted this scheme.
Though the Galican system is older, it is not commonly in use by churches which follow The Lutheran Hymnal and other older English and German hymnals. Therefore this calculator is offered for those who wish to continue to use the liturgical calendar which was once in common use in the Lutheran Church. This is likewise the same calendar that is described in The Lutheran Hymnal on page 158.
This calendar is valid for any year in the Gregorian calendar (1582 or later).
Please note: The year refers to the beginning of the Church Year and not the Calendar Year . Thus if you are looking for dates in a specific year after Advent and Chistmas, remember to subtract one from your year before entering it here.
